There are around 25 of them ages 6-12. I really enjoy being
around the children and the Lord is so near to them, but they
do need a few lessons in discipline. The first day was total
chaos. I was not even able to finish my lesson, so I just let them
go. Fortunately, thanks be to God, the other days went a lot
setting up for the lesson, they come up to me and ask me to
start the lesson, but minutes into the lesson, they ask me when
is it going to end. I tell them, "It's not going to finish until you
stop talking and pay attention." They keep still for a while.
When we are finished, they run off the bleacher shouting for joy
as if they were just released from prison. For me, I really enjoy
it, and some of the kids have given me very positive remarks.
And I believe the others really don't mind being there.
In other news, I am setting up a basketball and soccer league
for the youth on the weekends. And in two weeks is the huge
Laredo Youth Conference.
God is good; I am not. Let us not look to ourselves with sorrow
but to God with Joy. Amen!

"God is great and so is his mother. We had the feast of Our
Lady of Guadalupe last week and in one simple word it was
beautiful. We gathered at 5:30 in the morning for a Rosary
procession around the church and afterwards we sang songs to
Our Lady. My favorite being "Las Apariciones Guadalupanas."
The first verse goes,
"Desde el cielo una hermosa manana
La Guadalupana bajo' al Tepeyac."
From the heavens a beautiful morning
The Guadalupana came down to Tepeyac (the hill).
There was a mariachi band and matachines (dancing).
Following this was Mass and then breakfast, where I had my
first champurrada, which wasn't very good. It's made of cookie
dough, cinamon and sugar.
The reading of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe reminded
me of the true hand of God in our world and that He continues
to do marvelous deeds, and yes, even miracles. It was through
this aparition by the Our Lady of Guadalupe that confirmed
what the Spaniards preached to the indigenous people of
Nahuatl and eventually lead to the conversion of millions of
people."

"This weekend was quite busy as usual, the youth came over to
the center at 11am and stayed until 6:30pm. We played, we
ate, we played, we drank, and we played some more. I think
they really enjoy the environment here at the youth center.
There’s a lot of activities from soccer and flag football to
foosball and billards, but for the most part they choose to be
outside. We provide them with some snacks and drinks. They
come when they want and stay as long as they want. It is
strange, but like Timor there are some youth, who speak very
little English. They speak in Spanish, but my Spanish ear is
horrible, so I keep asking them “Mande, mande?” (What?).
Lord, please help me. They are a good group of kids and are
very respectful towards the facility. They call me “Coach”.
"We do not have a hight priest who is unable to sympathize with
our weaknessses, but one who has similary been tested in
every way, yet without sin." -Hebrews 4:15
27th January, 2007. 8:04 pm. Viva Don Bosco
"Today we had the 6th Annual St. John Bosco Run (3 mi). It was
great! I loved the fact that there were so many people there,
around 300. The weather had been cold all week, so I didn’t
even get the chance to train for the race, but decided to run
anyways. Therefore mid-way through the race, I thought to
myself that I would not be able to make it all the way through.
Ahhhhh. Trug, trug, trug. Deep breath. Trug, trug, trug.
Finished. I didn’t stop running, so that was good, and I felt great
about 30 minutes after the run. I was so tired that I didn’t even
look up at the time when I finished. All in all, a great experience,
and I definitely would like to be a part of the next run.
