"Experiencing, Sharing Life in Christ"
|
VIDES Heart beats is the name of our electronic newsletter. Look forward to receiving our news. VIDES
Hearts continue to beat. Many great things happen that make our hearts overflow with joy. The Lord does
marvels for us. Our electronic publication will continue to give you some glimpses of our journey. If you
are not receiving our e-newsletter, send me your e-mail address, so we can add you to our mail list.
1. Yes, we have a website thanks to a volunteer who donates his time once or twice a month to
update it! It will always be under construction because we hope—with your help—to continue to update
it regularly. And thanks to Nathan Van Coops, we also have the Volunteers’ Blog for you to surf and
share.
2. One history-making event changed our Vides West USA name and sent me to New Jersey to
meet with the two US FMA Provincials: S Phyllis Neves and S Sandra Neaves, and the new East USA
Director: S Denis Sickinger. There VIDES East USA was born on Jan 1, 2006, the feast of the Maternity
of Mary. Now we are VIDES+USA, the Central Office in San Antonio, with two Satellite Offices: North
Haledon, New Jersey and San Antonio, Texas (functioning as both Central and Satellite Office).
3. They say that one way to figure out where a person comes from is to study what direction that
person is going. Jesus came from a God of love and went to where that love could be made visible: in
the lives of the hurting and needy, in the hearts of the lonely and despairing, on the streets of the illegal
and immigrants, in the home of sinners and saints… Our road became his path; our exile his home.
Wherever we find the poor and persecuted, we will find Christ. From the outside, not a pretty picture, but
within, sheer radiance. [See Morneau, Ashes to Easter]
Peace and love in the Lord!

Leaning on Jesus’ Heart and looking out at
the world, we realize that giving, sharing,
nurturing life and true relationships with God
and others are vitally important. Yet, how
often we put them on the back burner or
stifle them. Many present-day idols can
muffle the sound of that precious
heartbeat—indifference and blindness to
the ways of God and the needs of others;
craving for power, for success in a career,
for affluence, for an easy and comfortable
life. These and other allurements can get
hold of our hearts without our noticing it. Sin
imperceptibly chains us. Then our hearts
become hearts of stone and nothing can
move us.
Let us continue to go back to the upper room and place our ear on His Heart, that Jesus may
help us realize our folly—the little thread or big chain that keeps our heart from being entrained,
that is, of beating at His rhythm, and following His lead. Then we’ll realize our deepest longing
and not go after things that fail to satisfy us. Listening to His Heart will help us to understand
how easily we can put aside the awesome dignity of giving and nurturing life, the sharing in the
creative power of God! Remaining in His Presence will melt our indifference and move our
hearts to beat at His tempo.
Let us not be surprised if sometimes the Lord has to knock us off our horse, as Christ did to
Saul, because we’re headed in a wrong direction, toward immediate, superficial, and glittering
rewards, convinced that we have the best of intentions. Yet, we are running away from truly
gratifying and life-giving choices. Returning to listen to His Heart we will also hear His voice…
and the scales will fall from our eyes… and we’ll begin to sense His loving presence, see with
His loving glance, and walk with burning hearts accompanying others on the journey, following
His lead.
Our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who have listened and are listening to Jesus’ heartbeat
and follow his call! A special prayer for those who are preparing to go on mission and to all who
support us with your prayer and offering! Let us make time to return to Jesus’ Heart daily and
meet there. One with Him, with hearts throbbing with His rhythm, in spite of the distractions,
allurements, and difficulties, we’ll have the strength of walking the roads of the world, being His
Heart, Hands, and Feet for others and for one another.
